They fall the ground beneath you, 2018
The artist has encountered Sonya Kelliher-Combs’ work mostly through documentation and is compelled by her commitment to process, memory, community and embodied practices. By making this video installation, the artist honours Sonya Kelliher-Combs, whose practice has carved space for Alaska Native peoples’ concerns and ways of being. A video installation in relation to Afognak, family, embodied knowledges, and memory. With Mina Linklater, Sassa Linklater, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Tessa Pizzale and Keisha Stone. Camera and Edit: Neven Lochhead. Developed for the exhibition, Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now, at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art curated by Mindy Besaw, Candice Hopkins and Manuela Well-Off-Man. This work was complemented by a performance with two dancers in the museum in November, 2018.
